Teddy Bear Convoy Takes Place this Weekend

by Darrell Mercer

The 32nd Annual Janeway Children’s Miracle Network Telethon takes place this weekend, and that’s where you will find many of the province’s commercial trucking representatives and their trucks. As part of the telethon events, members of the “Just for Kids Transportation Group” come together in a Teddy Bear Convoy to raise funds to help the sick kids and put a smile on the faces of the many children who use the facility each year.

Driving their trucks in a convoy through both Corner Brook and St. John’s, the dozens of big rigs are a special attraction to the many young people who love watching the parade each year. This weekend, the Corner Brook event is planned for Saturday, June 4, and the St. John’s event takes place Sunday, June 5. Last year’s event raised approximately $45,000 with over 70 trucks forming a convoy at both events.

Marine Atlantic is proud to support our partners in the Newfoundland and Labrador trucking industry and is sponsoring a barbecue as a small token of appreciation for these community heroes. If you see the convoy this weekend, please give a smile, a beep of your horn, or a wave of your hand. While our commercial drivers make sure store shelves are always stocked, this weekend they demonstrate much more. Not only do they drive big trucks, they also have very big hearts!
