June 25 is International Day of the Seafarer

by Dave Frew, Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Affairs

Every year on June 25, the United Nations observes the International Day of the Seafarer to recognize the efforts of the many men and women who work in valuable marine careers. Organized by the International Maritime Organization, millions of people around the world learn more about the work and dedication of those who serve on board ships of all sizes.

Marine Atlantic is proud of our dedicated and hardworking employees who work to transport the many goods and people travelling between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia on a daily basis. Their efforts keep store shelves stocked, reunite families and make a lasting impression on tourists looking for a unique adventure in Atlantic Canada.

This year’s campaign is focused on encouraging people to consider a career at sea. The rewards of working in the marine industry can be many and is an attractive and exciting option for those making career decisions. Marine Atlantic, like other shipping companies, is always looking for talented individuals to join our team.

If you are a seafarer working in the maritime industry, join thousands of your colleagues around the world and tweet about your experiences at sea using the hashtag #careeratsea. For those considering a marine-related career, take the time to visit #careeratsea and see directly what experienced sailors have to say.
