Each year, Marine Atlantic recognizes an employee who volunteers their time and skills to support their community. Through these outstanding volunteer achievements and upholding and representing Marine Atlantic’s values, this employee is presented with the Volunteer of the Year Award.

This year’s recipient is Steven Macdonald who is a founder and dedicated volunteer with the Tri-Town Amateur Boxing Club in North Sydney. Through his efforts, he has helped develop the space, coach youth boxers, organize fundraisers, prepare registrations and chaperone events. The Club has also participated in local parades and activities, even finding the time to adopt a family through the Christmas season.

Through his knowledge and skills, Steven has shared his passion with young people in

an effort to provide them with new skills and an avenue to channel their efforts in a healthy and

positive direction. The philosophy of the boxing club is to provide an opportunity to all youth who want to participate, and are focused at keeping the participant costs at a minimum.

As the President of the Tri-Town Amateur Boxing Club, Steven and his colleagues have turned into significant role models for local youth in the area. Described as the driving force and pillar of the organization, we are proud to call this individual one of our own.
Congratulations Steven on being recognized as the 2015 Marine Atlantic Volunteer of the Year.
